A Few Considerations...

South African Boerboels Facts

01 — Your Puppy Wont Stay “Small, Cute, and Cuddly” For Long.

It isn’t unusual for a 9 month Boerboel to be over 100lbs. Don’t spend a lot of money on small beds, small bowls, small cages. Ensure you are ready for the way the Boerboel grows. In the military we say “Prior Planning Prevents Piss-Poor Performance”.

02 — You “Pay How THEY Weigh”

When it comes to owning the Boerboel something you should consider is the cost of food and care. Food is an obvious expense to most. Whether your pup is on kibble, raw, or a mixed diet expect to spend some of your hard earned pay on food rations. The thing that surprises most first time owners is the cost of care. Boarding large dogs can be more costly, grooming large dogs is more costly, and if your pup goes to Sick Call and requires medication it will be prescribed by weight.

03 — Space and Exercise is Non-Negotiable for them.

These massive Mastiffs require PT (physical training) and space to thrive and grow properly. The idea is that you raise a lean, mean, barking machine., and not a couch potato. This is why before accepting an application for a WarDog, we will require a brief video call to see the space you have for your puppy and talk through the puppies needs. Admittedly we wont be shipping any puppies to the barracks.

04 — Early Socialization and Training is a NEED!

Close your eyes, imagine you and your 160lb WarDog strolling down the street and your WarDog decides the cat across the street looks like a Russian operative. Your pup kicks into high speed, low drag mode and begins to engage, you are going to wish your pup had made it through Boot Camp (Basic Training). A well socialized and well behaved Boerboel is a happy Boerboel.
